Properly maintaining your heating and cooling systems will drastically improve the comfort of your home. At Minnick’s we always want our homeowners to know exactly what work is being conducted on their HVAC systems. Here is what you may expect during your maintenance appointment.

Electrical Connections

Electrical Connections must frequently be tested, tightened, and occasionally replaced due to normal wear and tear. Loose or damaged air conditioner connections can lead to unit failure or even fire hazards such as flame or exhaust issues.

Thermostat Operation & Calibration

Thermostats can be tricky to place and sometimes may need to be relocated if they are not in the most advantageous position. If your thermostat is in a location where sunlight will hit it directly or perhaps right below an air vent, this could cause an improper reading.

They will also be tested for calibration to make sure they are sending the proper readings to your systems allowing optimal performance and accurate temperature control.

Blower Motor Operation

In order for the warm air from your heating system or the cold air from your AC to circulate, the blower motor must be running and operating properly.

Indoor & Outdoor Coils

Both sets of coils must be cleaned at least annually but we recommend twice per year to avoid repairs and to keep energy costs low. Clogged coils can cause your unit to work much harder than it should, dwindling its life expectancy prematurely.

Heat Exchangers & Combustion

If the heat exchanger inside the furnace is not operating properly, this can cause toxins like carbon monoxide to escape into your home when they should be routed outside.

Refrigerant Levels

Refrigerant is a cooling agent that circulates through your pipes. Refrigerant leaks can cause a multitude of problems but mostly damaged parts if the leak is not found and addressed immediately.

Air Filters

It may sound simple but if you are having airflow issues, the culprit may be your air filter. Some air filters may be too restrictive for your unit and your HVAC technician would be able to recommend a better-suited type of air filter. Other times, air filters may be restricting airflow from being too dirty. Make sure to always replace your air conditioning filter within the time frame suggested on the packaging, usually 90 days. Some filters may need to be replaced by a certified HVAC technician such as a furnace filter.
